A father's undying Love
How… how can God do this to a little girl? How can he make a little girl so sick, that there’s nothing they can do about it? That little girl lying in that white bed there? That’s my little daughter, Rose. She’s been diagnosed with cancer and is dying. The doctors can’t do anything about it. My wife, Sara, and I, can’t do anything about it. We just have to sit there, watching our little girl die more and more for every day that goes by. Every day more and more life drifts out from that tiny little 8 year old body. I’m Tom, Tom Fletcher.
‘Congratulations Mr. Fletcher, you have a healthy baby girl’ the doctor said, giving my little daughter to me. I smiled and kissed my wife on the forehead. I looked at my baby girl, lying in my arms, screaming. Her amazingly blue eyes, looking back at me. I smiled and then suddenly she became all quiet. Her cheeks were red like a rose. ‘Sara, I know what we can call her. Rose’ I said, looking at her. ‘Rose… what a pretty name’ Sara said, resting her head on the pillow. ‘Hey little Rose’ I said, playing with her little fingers.
I sat by her bed, looking at her. She smiled at me, and I smiled back. But inside I was doing everything but smile. Inside my heart I was screaming and crying. Her blue eyes were still filled with so much life and love. ‘Dad, what’s wrong?’ Rose said, holding her hands over mine. I looked at her small fingertips. ‘Nothing hun. Nothing at all’ I said, trying to put a brave face on. ‘Daddy, can you tell me a story?’ Rose asked, looking at me, as she putted down her head, resting against the pillow. I giggled and nodded, sitting myself closer to her. ‘There was this little girl, her name was rose. She was the best thing her mom and dad had gotten.’ Rose giggled and said ‘Stop joking around daddy’. I looked at her, seeing her cute dimples in her face, next to her small little mouth. ‘I’m tiered daddy’ Rose said, closing her eyes shut. ‘Yeah I know baby girl’ I said, stroking my fingers over her small forehead. ‘You rest little girl.’ I said, placing a little kiss on her forehead.
‘Can you say Daddy?’ I said, looking at her. She held her thumb in her mouth, laughing and smiling. ‘Tom, she’II say it soon. Just give her time’ Sara, my wife said. I looked at her and nodded. She went back into the kitchen and cleaned the stuff. ‘can you say Daddy?’ I said, once more. ‘Tom’ Sara said, and I laughed. ‘Alright alright. Let’s get you to bed ey?’ I said, snuggling my nose into hers. ‘Yeah, you’re tiered aren’t you?’ I said, putting her down in her little crib that was standing in the living-room. ‘Sara, do you need help with anything?’ I asked as I turned around, going towards the kitchen door. ‘Daddy’ Rose said, giggling. I stopped and turned around, looking at her. ‘Sara, did you hear that?’ I said, going over to Rose. ‘Hear what?’ Sara said, coming out with the dishes. ‘She said daddy’ I said, kissing her on the forehead. ‘Sure Tom’ Sara said, laughing. ‘She did’ I screamed after her. ‘Sure babe’ I turned and looked at her. ‘It’s our little secret then or what Rosie?’
‘I love you daddy’ Rose said, before closing her eyes. This was it. Tears started falling from my eyes. I leant in and kissed her on the forehead, whispering into her ear. ‘I love you too baby girl’ and then the machine started biping and the doctors came running inside, but I knew. I knew she was at a better place. ‘Bye baby’ I whispered, as I held around my wife, as the doctors tried to get back Rose.
